What happens if I fail a class?
If your overall grade falls below 80%, you will need to resit the class. Your cohort manager will contact you to explain the next steps. The retake cost will be added to your existing semester payment plan across the same number of installments.
If you fail more than one class in a semester, you will continue with your current cohort into the next semester as normal, and will retake your failed classes alongside your new classes for that semester. This means you will be enrolled in up to 5 classes that semester — your new classes plus the failed classes you are retaking. The cost is based on the total credit hours of all classes you are enrolled in that semester. The maximum grade you can achieve on a resit remains capped at 80%.
Do I have to pay to retake a class?
Yes. From Aug 2026 onwards, retaking a class carries a cost based on the credit hours assigned to that class. Classes carry different credit hour weightings.
How is the retake cost paid?
The retake cost will be added to your existing semester payment plan across the same number of installments. For FAFSA students, it is drawn from your remaining balance. For cash payers, your total semester balance increases to reflect the additional class. Contact the William Jewell Student Finance team if you have questions about your balance.
Is the retake grade capped?
Yes. If you resit a single class, the maximum grade you can achieve is 80%. There is no grade cap if you are required to restart an entire semester.
What if I have a genuine reason for failing — illness, family emergency, etc.?
Extenuating circumstances are considered on a case-by-case basis. Contact your cohort manager as early as possible. Extension requests must be submitted before 12pm local time on the final Friday of the class.
